How to Play: The Official Rules

Air O Sport is a family friendly and competition friendly sport. though, we do understand that family and competition don't typically mix well. It's always fun to throw in a change of pace every now and then. Hey, why not challenge the kids to a “losers do the dishes gauntlet”?

That being said, Air O Sport doesn't have to be competitive. You don’t have enough fingers to count all the ways this game can be played… below, you’ll learn how to play our 360 game mode.

How To Play

Let's start by covering the basics. Here are a few key aspects of Air O Sport.

  • Points are awarded when a direct hit knocks a rocket off the tower. when on offense, you can run, pass, or shoot from any angle to knock off the rockets

  • On defense, work together to block, intercept, or defend rockets from being knocked off.

  • When the Air O disc hits the ground after a drop or missed shot, the disc becomes “live”.

  • The first team to pick up the “live” disc is now on offense.

  • Teams earn 1 point for every direct hit on a rocket.

  • The opposing team gets possession after each score.

  • The first team to 11 points wins the match!

Game Rules

Now for all my rule junkies, let's get technical.

It’s important to remember that players in possession of the disc are allowed to take as many steps as they want (advanced rules can limit number of steps or disc advanced by passing only).

The offensive team must shoot from outside the o and cannot run into or through the o.

Defenders can have 1 foot inside the o to gain position. Defenders can not snatch or steal the disc out of another player’s hands. Any team can rebound or recover the disc inside of the o.

Officiating

Players are responsible for their own foul/ violation calls. fouls are awarded with a free throw (1 step behind the o). Any dispute can be resolved through a shoot-out (ex. best of 3 shots.).

Set-up

Now for the set-up. keep in mind, this is all adaptable to what you have available. don’t let something minor stop you from getting out there!

Basics

  • Set up 1 air o sport tower and 1 air o circle (“the o”).

  • Break up into two teams (recommended 360* play is 4-on-4, but any size teams work!).

  • Start with a “jump disc” by tossing an air-o-disc to determine who starts on offense (just like basketball).

Set-up Specifics

  • Official field size for 360* play (1 tower) is 25 x 25 feet with tower in the center

  • Official full-court field size (2 towers) is 75 x 30 feet with towers on opposite ends of field

  • Field of play can be modified to account for more or less players

  • Don’t have an Air O circle? Create your own “no-go zone” using chalk, spray paint, cones or a portable lacrosse crease. Official circle size is 18 ft’ in diameter but can be modified depending on skill level.

Still here? Well, I sure do appreciate you reading to the end, but it’s about time you get out there and have fun! You don’t have the excuse of not knowing how to play anymore!
